HEAD COACH VALERIE STEAD POTSOS

Michigan Dance Head Coach Valerie Stead PotsosValerie Stead Potsos began her tenure as the head coach of the University of Michigan dance team in 2000. Under her guidance, the team has excelled each year and is consistently ranked among the nation's best. In both 2014 and 2015, U-M posted top-10 finishes at UDA nationals in hip hop and jazz for the last 12 years.  The team placed 5th in 2017 in the Jazz category.

When she is not coaching the dance team on the sidelines of U-M football and basketball games, she runs her own studio. Stead Potsos is the Director/Owner of Dancer's Edge in Dexter, MI. Dancer's Edge was recently named as one of the "Top Studios on the Move" in Dance Spirit Magazine and has won national competitions as well.

Stead Potsos has dedicated her life to dance. She has been dancing since age three and coaching and choreographing since she was 14. Her coaching credits include eight years with the Royal Oak Kimball Dance Company and the Royal Oak Kimball Varsity Cheer and Dance teams. She previously served as an instructor for "Girls Empowered" a leadership company dedicated to empowering the lives of young women.   One of her students was featured in the Top 30 for America's Got Talent in 2015.

She is also a sought-after dance educator, presenter and judge. She is a consultant for the American Association of Cheer Coaches and Administrators and staff member for Varsity University and Universal Dance Association. She has presented on topics such as motivation, leadership, team building and more. Her articles on coaching and dance have appeared in Dance Spirit, American Cheerleader and in Motion magazines. She was honored at the 2004 Universal Dance Association with the Coaches Leadership Award.   Many organizations have relied on Stead Potsos to judge local, state and national competitions, including college dance nationals and Dance Worlds.

Stead Potsos recently has been choreographing for professional corporate sponsors including Ford Motor Company. She also is a guest choreographer for many studios and high school teams all around the country.

She has also taughtfor the U-M School of Kinesiology's "U-Move" program along with its annual physical education teachers' conference. Stead Potsos graduated with a B.A. from the University of Michigan where she also was a member and captain of the U-M dance team. She also completed additional graduate studies in Secondary Education from Michigan State University. She resides in Dexter, MI., with her husband, two sons and a daughter.

HOWEVER, CAMP ATTENDANCE AT MICHIGAN (INCLUDING ATTENDANCE AT ELITE OR ADVANCED CAMPS) IS NEVER RESTRICTED BY A CAMPER'S SKILL LEVEL OR COMPETITIVE EXPERIENCE.
